This piece had water sit on the top , much loose veneer. Also some previous repairs done using epoxy had come loose. These pictures are during and after I made these inlay strips to replace missing and rotted sections.

After filling and sanding color was adjusted two coats of penetrating oil applied, shellacked , leveled and burnished with alcohol and lubricant (french polish technique) to a satin/gloss sheen.

 

Top finished to match color in on the base

Top finished to match color in on the base. The finish on the sides and drawers was cleaned after some repairs had been done. The top was chemically stripped to allow moisture to penetrate the wood to reactivate the glue to loosen and remove or push back down and adhere to the substrate.
